Juiliet Ibrahim has revealed that she went through a lot of pain after her divorce
- She has urged divorced women to take their time to heal and start over
Celebrated Ghanaian actress and entrepreneur, Juliet Ibrahim, has urged women who are divorced and those who are faced with the option of divorce never to give up on remaining strong.
Juliet Ibrahim, who is a divorcee herself also shared some of the struggles that she had to endure after she divorced her ex-husband, Kwadwo Safo Junior.
She was speaking as a panel member on ‘Tales from the Powder room’, a social programme which touches on relationship issues and airs on GhOne TV every Wednesday.
YEN.com.gh monitored the show last night and the topic for discussion was divorce and how divorced women can keep themselves going, how they can keep a relationship with their ex-husband when they have a child together.
Sharing her own experience, Juliet, who is also a music director and producer disclosed that her divorce caused her a lot of emotional pain, especially because of her son who was born in that marriage.
According to her, even though she had good reasons to go on with the divorce, she was still depressed over the issue because she was considering her child’s welfare.
Therefore, it took her a long time to finally be firm with her decision to divorce. This, she indicated, left her emotionally drained.
“I kept thinking about my child; everything about him comes first; the pressure was unbearable, the psychological effect and all that but in the end I knew I had to go for it [the divorce],” Juliet Ibrahim explained.
In advising other women who find themselves in the same situation, Juliet said -with much emphasis- that the best way forward is to remain confident and move on.
“Realize that there is no going back, be confident, maintain your integrity and move on,” Ms. Ibrahim stated.
She added that divorced women should also make it a goal to get a job and get busy, that is if they do not already have a job so that they would not end up spending time thinking about their loss.
Juliet Ibrahim also stressed on the need for divorced women to keep a healthy relationship with their ex-husbands if they have a child because everything about the child must be the priority of both even though they are no more together.
She concluded her advice by appealing to the women not to quickly go into a new relationship after the divorce but rather wait for the right time.
“Also don’t go chasing after a new relationship. Wait calmly while you get busy with work and the right person will come to you naturally,” Juliet Ibrahim said.
The actress who is now dating her Nigerian musician boyfriend, Iceberg Slim divorced ex-husband, Kwadwo Safo Junior, in June 2014
