Gospel minstrel Gifty ‘Empress’ Osei rocked the stage at the 2017 People’s Celebrity Awards with her very own renditions of NDC’s ‘Onaapo’ and Freedom by dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale.
Tweaking the lyrics of both songs to suit the gospel genre, the gospel artiste thrilled patrons of the awards ceremony with her ‘gospel’ version of both songs.
Supported by backing vocalists, who sang the chorus ‘Onaapo’, Gifty Osei used the lyrics of the NDC campaign song to praise Jesus, indirectly stating no one cannot be compared to him.
Gifty Osei switched to Shatta Wale’s latest hit ‘Freedom’ song, with the backing vocalists singing the chorus, though they changed it to ‘Jesus’. She added her usual creativity by including the phrase ‘I am that I am’, while dancing to the live band music.
The ‘Adom’ hit singer came under heavy criticism by a section of the gospel fraternity after performing at the recent S Concert held at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Despite numerous backlash about her dressing and places she performs, Gifty Osei ‘did her thing’ for fans who came to witness the event.
Prominent personalities including Asamoah Gyan, DKB, Ahoufe Patri, Kalybos, and Dr. Paa Kwesi Ndoum were present to grace the event.
Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale, TeePhlow, Fancy Gadam, KiDi, Kuami Eugene, Ebony and others also brought the auditorium to a standstill.
The People’s Celebrity Awards is an annual award scheme which seeks to award and celebrate individuals who have contributed immensely towards the development of the Ghanaian Arts and Entertainment industry.
The award scheme covered areas such as music, movies, TV, Radio, Journalism, and other fields.
