-BBC poll records most popular songs in Ghana last week
-Two songs from Shatta Wale and a song from Stonebwoy made the list
Dancehall artistes Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy have been acknowledged by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in its poll of the three most popular songs in Ghana last week.
Shatta Wale
According to the international media house, two songs from the self-proclaimed dancehall king, Charles Nii Armah Mensah popularly known as Shatta Wale and one song from Livingstone Etse Satekla known in the showbiz world as Stonebwoy, were the most popular songs in Ghana.
The songs from Shatta Wale, “Dem Confuse” and hit song, “Freedom” took the second and first place respectively in the most popular songs list.
Stonebwoy
Stonebwoy’s “Hero” took the third place of the most popular songs played in Ghana.
The video was first discovered by experienced sports journalist, Gary Al-Smith and Shatta Wale got word of it and shared it on his Facebook wall. The dancehall artiste captioned his post, “BBC No.1 song in Ghana!!! Discovered by yours truly SM sports presenter Gary Al- Smith."
This year, both artistes have been in the news for many good reasons. Shatta Wale gifted a brand new saloon car to Captan, one of his militants.
Stonebwoy also made headlines during the birthday of his wife when he shared a lovely photo of his wife’s baby bump.
Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy have been perceived in the media as arch rivals in the dancehall music genre in Ghana.
Their rivalry has been so highly patronized that both artistes have ended up giving each other nicknames. Shatta Wale, born Charles Nii Armah Mensah refers to Stonebwoy as “Sergeant Lee” and Stonebwoy in turn calls Shatta Wale, “Corporal Nii”.
The two award-winning artistes however made headlines in Ghana and on social media when they shared the same stage in one performance at Stonebwoy’s “Ashiaman to the World” concert.
On New Year’s Eve last year, Shatta Wale went ahead to wish Stonebwoy, Samini and Sarkodie the best of 2018.
