When recently a certain man from no other part than the Volta region of Ghana buried his dead dog in a flamboyant fashion that attracted sympathisers from as far as South Africa and local chiefs to be in attendance, a lot of noise was made about it.
Now here is a story of a Texas family that published a paid for obituary of a pet hen in a newspaper to mourn its death.
According to the UPI.com, the Stephanie Sword family developed so much love for the bird they affectionately called Big Mama, after adopting it in 2013 when its original owner reportedly took it to a veterinarian for mercy killing, apparently due to ill health.
The news portal reported that the veterinarian then advised the owner to put it up for adoption instead of euthanasia.
In the obituary published in The Eagle Newspaper in Bryan, Texas, the Sword family wrote that it got "hooked instantly" as soon as it spotted the "skinny, indoor chicken looking at herself in a mirror" and decided to adopt it.
The ‘bereaved’ family revealed how the deceased hen has since lived with them among other flock of hens until its death earlier this month.
